What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?

Irritable bowel syndrome is also known as ibs. It is a gastrointestinal system disease that occurs in the middle age group and especially in women. It is accepted as a common disease that does not limit life expectancy.

This disease may cause various problems in the digestive system, but they do not have any basic cause. It is mostly seen in the form of dysfunction of the digestive system, not structural. Irritable bowel syndrome not only affects the large intestine but also affects the entire digestive system and appears as severe digestive complaints.

Twenty percent of industrialized countries have mild to moderate levels of Irritable bowel syndrome with IBS but are almost twice as likely to be seen in women. It starts to be seen most frequently especially in the 20-30s, it can last for months to years. This ibs disease is said to occur mostly after a bowel infection. Since the exact cause of this disease is not known, there is no definitive treatment and does not leave any permanent damage to the intestine.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Diet Therapy:

In the diet to be given to IBS patients, energy and nutrients should be given according to the needs of the patient. The diet to be given should be tailored to the person’s symptoms. For example, for an individual suffering from diarrhea, dietary fat should be reduced as it can increase bowel movements and cause diarrhea. The pulp of the diet should also be low as pulp can increase bowel movements.

Conversely, if the patient has constipation instead of diarrhea, diet pulp should be increased. An average of 20 g of dandruff given per day helps to correct the symptoms by eighty percent. Increasing the number of meals in the diet of these patients will benefit. The diet should be regulated with 5-6 meals a day with little and frequent nutrition.

Cabbage, radishes, gas-producing foods such as carbonated drinks, alcohol, cigarettes, bitter spices should be avoided at the same time, raw vegetables and fruits, dairy products in some individuals because the symptoms should be given to the patient carefully. Some of the following foods can be symptoms-enhancing, these foods should be carefully tested.

  • Salted and smoked meats
  • Shellfish
  • Vinegar
  • Coffee
  • Chocolate
  • Onion
  • corn
  • Citrus
  • Wheat
  • Oat
  • Rye
  • Tea
  • Vinegar
  • Additives

Therefore, these foods should be avoided if necessary.

 Diet for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The sample diet list contains all foods that are free to consume. However, portion sizes should vary according to the person’s weight, height, age and gender values. It should be kept in mind that food types should be considered in order to minimize and eliminate symptoms.

Breakfast: 

  • 1 boiled egg
  • 2 tablespoons curd cheese
  • The tomato-cucumber (lean)
  • 1-2 slices of white bread or gluten-free bread

Mid-morning:

  • ½ banana or 1 orange or 2 slices of pineapple or ½ quince or 2 tangerines

Noon:

  • 100-120 g grilled or boiled beef, veal, sheep, chicken, turkey meat, fish
  • Salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pepper, dill)
  • 1-2 slices of white/gluten-free bread or 3 spoons of rice pilaf

Afternoon: 

  • 1 glass of lactose-free milk

Evening:

  • 8 spoon of the vegetable dish (purslane, zucchini, eggplant, spinach, celery, chard)
  • Salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pepper, dill)
  • 1-2 slices of white/gluten-free bread or 3 spoons of rice pilaf

Night:

  • ½ banana or 1 orange or 2 slices of pineapple or ½ quince or 2 tangerines.
